They usually find themselves defending both their own race and other autobots against the Decepticons and upholding justice and freedom throughout the galaxy. They are considered "the good guys" in most, but not all Transformers stories.

The Transformers franchise is full of several iconic Robots in Disguise, with most iterations featuring the Autobots' continuing battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. Usually leading the heroic faction of Transformers is Optimus Prime, with characters such as Bumblebee also frequently seen. Other Autobots aren't quite as well-known, but they're still incredibly cool characters and integral parts of the franchise. A great battle between the Autobots the Primes and their soldiers and the Decepticons the Fallen and his soldiers took place near the Star Harvester over possession of the Matrix.

Although they fought valiantly, the Decepticons were more warlike, and they began to gain ground. Galloway used the autobots as an excuse to have himself placed in charge of NEST and place the Autobots under guard, autobots.
