The newest Chromecast, the p Chromecast with Google TV HD , is only a few months old, but we could be due for another new streaming dongle out of Google in the near future. According to 9to5Google , the latest preview update for Google Home makes reference to a yet-unannounced Chromecast with Google TV device. As for what exactly it could be, there's not much to go on — but we have our theories. The existing 4K Chromecast with Google TV is pretty feature rich for its price, but it comes with some annoying limitations. Chiefly, the dongle's eight gigs of storage space is restrictive, and there's no practical way to add more you can use a USB hub to hook up an SD card, but that dampens the appeal of such a small, unobtrusive device. It's also possible this new YTC could be a refresh of the default 4K Chromecast with Google TV, meant to provide a similar midrange experience to the dongle Google released in Aside from storage frustrations, though, the original CCwGTV is holding up pretty well, so a one-to-one replacement in the near future sounds a little less likely.

Neither dongle was without its faults, with Google working to keep costs down through a minimal spec sheet. Beyond that, the Chromecast with Google TV could certainly do with a performance boost, as the dongle is beginning to show its age. Anyone at Google, if you're reading this, please increase the storage and include a faster CPU. I love the idea of CCWGTV, but my experience has been incredibly sub par, with a constant need to manage storage, extremely slow performance, and constantly having to reboot to fix weird issues like no sound, no picture, no connection, etc. Please, please, put out a higher end version that works. Considering Google has already released a lower-end model of Chromecast, we believe the company is on schedule to release something with a higher set of specs to replace its current flagship offering. The processor should also see an upgrade, as Android TV somewhat recently changed its hardware requirements. What would you like to see from a next-generation Chromecast with Google TV?
