The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an open-world adventure that is simply staggering in scope, and it's easy to spend hours simply wandering around and exploring without furthering the storyline. However, while large portions of your quest will no doubt be spent hunting wildlife, discovering shrines and grabbing the best loot , there are some key plot points to unearth - and like so much of this amazing adventure, many of them are entirely optional. Each memory is tied to a photograph taken before the fall of Hyrule, and visiting the spot - denoted by an ethereal glow - will trigger a cutscene from years ago, detailing the last failed attempt to bring Calamity Ganon to justice. There are 13 memories to find in total, and we've listed them below in the order in which they appear in your photo album. While you don't have to follow this list to the letter, they make chronological sense when watched in this order. This is the first memory you'll uncover, and is part of a quest set by Impa in Kakariko Village. The closest warp point at this juncture of the game is the Central Tower - you'll need to paraglide north through Hyrule Field towards semi-circular construction on your map. Beware of marauding Guardians along the way, as you'll be too weak to fight them early on in your quest. The location is on the banks of Lake Kolomo. The memory is located right next to Tena Ko'sah Shrine.
You can find it by climbing to a peak West of the Goronbi Lake, and fight through Lizalfos to find a clear plateau with a ring of small stones overlooking the tower, and the memory is found just in front of the stones, 13 memory botw. Tap here to load 30 comments.
Breath of the Wild is the first voice-acted Zelda game, but its story is delivered almost entirely through flashback - and you need to unlock each memory. Here's where to find all of the Recovered Memories to learn the truth of years ago. Once you visit Impa in Kakariko Village and have all of the basic runes of your Sheikah Slate restored, she offers you a task and triggers a new main quest: you'll need to locate places you visited in the past in order to reawaken memories of years ago. This is how much of Breath of the Wild's story is delivered, through lovely context-filled flashbacks. They're well worth viewing, though getting access to them can be a little bit frustrating depending on how much you like easter egg hunts. Impa will unlock 12 photos in your Sheikah Slate, and each points to a different part of the world.
Aside from developing the backstory of the characters, it's a chance to learn about the world and discover more of Hyrule. While it'll take you to every corner of the map in the process, it's actually a shorter sequence than most of the collectibles, with just 12 captured memories to find along the way. We'll show you how to get 12 of the Breath of the Wild Captured Memories, which will then unlock the secret 13th memory to combine with the others and hopefully fill in any blanks you may have. The first memory in your album is easy to reach, but beware of the Guardians patrolling the area. Take out the Guardians or sneak to the centre to see a glowing light. Step into it and hit recall to watch a cutscene, then consider hotfooting it out of there. There's a road that leads directly to the lake. Follow it and veer off to the left when it ends. Follow the road south west from Gerudo Canyon Stable. If you have a lot of healing items, you can essentially brute force your way there by topping up your HP gauge when it gets too low from heat damage.

Several locations will require the paraglider to reach, as well as equipment for surviving in hot areas. Each photograph gives only a vague hint of where to go based on the landscape. This first captured memory is near the ruins of Hyrule castle and is easiest to reach by paragliding over the many enemies around.

In order to find and view Memories , you must search for the locations based on the visual clues in your Sheikah Slate Album. You'll need to avoid the unwanted attention of several land and air-based Guardians during this section, too. Pikango the painter, found at various stables and towns throughout Hyrule, can offer additional clues. There are a number of guardians around this area, so be careful when you go to grab this one, especially if you do it early on. The twelfth and final picture in the initial album showcases a fairly generic looking forested road. The Sanidin Park Ruins are right off the road that goes through Hyrule Ridge on the western side of the river. The eighteenth and last in particular is optional and will be revealed generally very late on though as always with Breath of the Wild, it depends how you play - it triggers if and when you pick up the Master Sword. Out of all of the memories in the game, this one is without a shadow of a doubt the hardest to find as it's located deep within Hyrule Castle, which is packed with Calamity Ganon's underlings. The ninth picture in the album shows a watery spring with a statue flanked by two trees - located in the Spring of Power , one of three mystical springs in Hyrule. Paraglide north-west as if you're heading towards Korok Forest; there's a small U-shaped body of water and the memory is found nearby. When you figure out their location, you'll find a glowing yellow aura that will trigger a flashback from Link's previous adventures. Look for the road to the East of Satori Mountain to find the park at the top of a large hill, where the memory is found near the statue. Aside from the 12 pictures, you can also find the painter Pikango in certain stables across the game world, who can give you more hints as to where some memories are. He will only be available during the day time.
