The reality series features a group of 60 days in season 1 cast who go undercover as inmates at the Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville, Indiana. For 60 days they try to obtain evidence of illegal activities that might have gone unnoticed, while the other inmates, the guards and most of the officials are kept in the dark.

Mark Adger shared that in September , the jail intercepted a seemingly harmless letter from an inmate. However, upon closer examination, it was revealed to contain encrypted instructions for a recipient to harm a staff member at the jail.
