For the longest time, The Last Dinner Party comprised of vocalist Abigail Morris, bassist Georgia Davies, keyboardist Aurora Nishevci and guitarists Lizzie Mayland and Emily Roberts existed only through rare and elusive fan recordings, winning over audiences on the excitement around their live shows alone. Despite the pressure of the hype machine, the group — who all met at university in London — remain confident and undaunted. Firstly, you guys sound like you were born to make music together. How did you all meet each other? Abigail Morris: We all met in our first year of university and bonded over our obsession with the London live music scene. Our friendship and the genesis of the band formed over many nights of going to gigs together. How did you come up with the concept for the video? We wanted to create something visually striking, rich and decadent to go with the music.

Made up of all female and non-binary-identifying musicians, the Last Dinner Party serves up an intoxicating blend of coquettish, high-femme aesthetics and heavy rock instrumentals. Lead singer Morris is a powerhouse, wielding a voice that evokes both Freddie Mercury and Florence Welch. We were extremely nervous—there were probably only about 15 people there, and all of them were close friends of the other bands playing that night. It's a point of pride for Davies and her fellow bandmates that their friends in attendance at the Last Dinner Party's inaugural gig expressed a sense of pleasant surprise by the band's musical prowess. The truth is that the five friends met at university, where they used their various academic backgrounds both Davies and Morris studied English literature, while Mayland studied art history to create mood boards for their fledging outfit, and had long conversations in the smoking section of East London pubs. We all sat down to decide what we wanted to be called, what imagery it evokes, and what world we want to build aesthetically.
