Unique new-age look. In their latest game improvement iron, the XTD, Adams has implemented some new technology to produce one of the best game improvement irons I have ever adams xtd irons. When Adams introduced the new XTD Ironsthere was a strong response from a the usual suspects on the golf forums saying these irons looked terrible, they were robotic and clunky, what was Adams thinking?

And on top of that, they also look awesome, with their stunning new-age design. Are you convinced yet? Well, let me tell you a little bit more then. Creating superior golf clubs is a modus-vivendi for Adams Golf and the XTD line makes no exception to that rule. For game improvement irons, the Adams XTD are from another world aesthetically speaking, when compared to their competition. The XTD sounds and feels more like a hybrid or a wood, hugely boosting confidence during your swings and offering tons of forgiveness on every shot, round after round. Another cool feature of the XTD irons is their proprietary face-technology which dampens the impact, thus drastically reducing vibration, creating a soft and pleasant feel upon ball impact.

How did Adams add 20 yards to every club? Slot technology and the XTD piston paired with the super thin face seem to get the job done. Center of the face hits just launch up into the sky and go forever. I appreciated that it was a consistent 2 clubs longer across the board. I was hitting my 4-iron almost as long as my hybrid. I felt really strong hitting a 9-iron yards. It feels good and gives your ego a boost. The downside is my set only went to a pitching wedge which means I ran out of yardage at yards. I believe getting the GW and even the SW might be required to keep this set playable in those shorter distances to make sure all the yardage gaps are filled. What is the bottom line on the Adams XTD irons?

The new XTD irons feature the industry's first-ever cross-cavity design, combined with Cut-Thru Slot Technology, to create distance through technology instead of strengthened lofts. An industry-first cross-cavity technology helps keep errant-struck shots on their proper path. Constructed for players of all skill levels, XTD irons boast a center of gravity CG moved off the face to generate gear effect similar to a hybrid. The result is corrective spin to straighten off-center hits. After contact, a face impact damper dramatically decreases vibration. Direct pressure on the back of the face produces the crisp sound of a forged iron, while some competitors use a simple badge. This also encourages players to drive through the shot.

Pros: A forged blade-type iron with a little bit of a size advantage for extra forgiveness. The feature also helps lower the center of gravity, which produces higher-launching shots that generally do not suffer from runaway spin numbers. See the discussion and gallery of the full Adams XTD line in the forums. There is palpable synergy among all facets of the XTD Forged irons. High draws, low fades and all shots in between can be coaxed out of these irons by the skilled player. Shots produced by the irons pass the eye test handily: I noticed somewhat higher launch and good, stable ball flight when hitting shots with them both on the range and on the course. Even the long irons, when struck solidly, held firm greens. If I needed to hit a punch shot, the irons were equal to the task. The Cut-Thru Slot and tungsten weighting in these irons were especially noticeable on shots with the longer irons. Slight misses on the heel and toe yielded little in the way of lost distance, as did shots where I made slightly thin contact.
