Repeated attempts failed, directing me to download a no-longer-in-existence troubleshooting program, which I managed to circumvent by right-clicking "show package contents" on the install program icon, then opening the "Mac OS" folder and launching the install app icon found there. Each and every attempt to register failed with the alert "not connected to the internet", despite a 1TB download active connection via ethernet and WiFi.
