Given the ever-expanding nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe , it was perhaps only a matter of time until Venom joined the party. The deadly symbiote is one of the most iconic Spider-Man villains of all time, not to mention one of the most powerful. There are plenty of other symbiotic lifeforms scattered throughout the Marvel universe though, as fans of the MCU will likely soon discover. As well as the post-credit scene announcing Venom's introduction to the MCU , the closing moments of Let There Be Carnage also hint that another symbiote could soon be making its big-screen debut. Like Carnage before it, Toxin is incredibly strong, but how exactly does it compare to some of the other powerful Symbiotes from Marvel's history?

Since the sheer volume of symbiotes in the Marvel Universe can easily overwhelm new fans, here's a breakdown of the most important symbiotes that superhero fans need to know. Despite becoming an anti-hero in recent years, Venom was one of Spider-Man's most dangerous foes. The symbiote had copied Spider-Man's powers during their time together, granting Eddie all of the Web-Slinger's abilities and more. He was faster and stronger, could create tendrils to be used as weapons, camouflage into his surroundings, and was immune to Spider-Man's famous "spider sense.

The original idea for the Black Spider-Man suit came from a fan , Randy Schueller , who described the new uniform artist Mike Zeck would draw. A lot has happened since , with dozens of unique symbiotes showing up on the pages of different Marvel comic books. The alien goo's origins were also explored in-depth, as we learned they came from the planet Klyntar. More recently, Marvel revealed how the symbiotes were created by a deity called Knull to conquer the universe and fight the light produced by Celestials. With such a complex history, it is no wonder that some symbiotes are stronger than others.

New symbiote characters like Misery and Madness made their debut as established heroes like Normie Osborn and Eddie Brock explored their new roles as Red Goblin and the King in Black, respectively. Since the symbiotes first appeared during the original Secret Wars event, their history and place in the Marvel universe have shifted and changed over the years. The symbiotes' lengthy history can be daunting for new fans, especially with Venom and the Summer of Symbiotes' ongoing revelations. Knull was born of the living abyss of darkness he controlled in the early stages of the development of life in the Marvel universe. As the God of Darkness, he naturally rebelled against the God of Light who brought life to the universe. Hoping to fight back with a massive display of force, Knull began experimenting with his living darkness in order to create a powerful army.
