All companions have their own endings, and they usually range from good, bad, or tragic. That said, there is one companion whose endings are both tragic. If his personal quest is completed, he will either become a Vampire Ascendant or remain a Vampire Spawn. Both endings are tragic in their own way. However, there is one ending that is more tragic than the other, and that would be Astarion becoming the Vampire Ascendant. Astarion has one of Baldur's Gate 3 's best companion character developments. If Astarion ascends, he loses all that character development and goes back to how he was when players first met him after the Nautiloid crash, but with the added evilness, hunger for power, and controlling demeanor. If the player chooses to prevent him from ascending, he later thanks them for saving him from himself. Much like how Cazador was, Astarion grows a lust and hunger for power after he ascends, unlike his Spawn self. Ascended Astarion believes that freedom can only be obtained with power and domination over everything else. He essentially becomes Cazador, the person he hated the most.

Ascended astarion
BG3 Astarion can be met early in Act 1 while players explore the beach on the crash site of the Nautiloid. Astarion is a High-Elf Rogue , and a useful addition to your party thanks to his trickery skills. They all have their own Classes and starting equipment, but you can change their classes via Respec in camp. Companions can also be selected as an Origin in the Character Creation screen allowing players to play from their point of view. Astarion prowled the night as a vampire spawn for centuries, serving a sadistic master until he was snatched away.

He quickly changes the subject if the player agrees, but it's obvious to anyone who understands his character that this is his usual deflection. But, the only thing he's ever wanted for himself, after being told what to do for years, was having enough power to keep himself safe. Someone has acquired knowledge they can use against him. And it is for him to be successful as he wanted. In the dungeon there was no Tav who said to him "Astarion, don't do this, this in not you, this is wrong" and he reassured himself that power gives him everything he wants. Larian Studios. Would be nice to continue romancing companions after their story end, especially Astarion, every ending of my favorite companion just leaves a deep hole Its all well written yeah, but an optional ending to this, a powerful yet happy ending would be nice to see. Astarion disapproves of displays of weakness and does not like acts of kindness or charity that offer no reward.
In Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3 , several character arcs come to a head—one of which is that of Astarion, the vampire spawn enslaved by the Vampire Lord Cazador for two centuries. Upon entering the city, you'll be able to assist Astarion in confronting Cazador, who intends to execute a dark ritual by sacrificing seven-thousand spawn to amplify his own power. After subduing Cazador, Astarion will ask you to help him use the ritual for his own ascension.
Agreeing to this will lead to Astarion doing exactly that, and all seven thousand spawn, as well as Cazador and Astarion's six "brothers and sisters", will be sacrificed , leading to Astarion becoming a Vampire Ascendant. He can cast the Fire Bolt cantrip as a high elf, and as a vampire spawn he has access to a unique Vampire Bite , however this action does not appear until after the party finds out about his vampirism.
