While the standard Longsword can outdamage it on quality builds, the Balder Side Sword's low Strength requirement and heavy focus on Dexterity scaling allows it to reach similar damage to most other straight swords in the game at a lower stat investment.

So I'm running a dex build right now with the Balder Side Sword and during my travels I have noticed how the slashes are useless and the thrusts are godlike. As a result I rarely ever use the R1 because why bother? Is this an early game trait or does it balance out later on? I have also been thinking of running a silver knight spear instead as it seems thrust weapons are godlike in DS1 or should I keep the Balder Side Sword as my main weapon? I'd love some people with more experience in DS1 to tell me what their viewpoint is with this situation I've ran into. Is it also better to run 40 dex or 60 dex like in DS3? Mostrando 1 - 2 de 2 comentarios. BSS is a good choice for a main weapon, but maybe your goal is to compare for yourself with other weapons - spears, katana any , halberd, claymore, longsword. For the latter ones you want some STR, too however no need to max that too. You might come to the conclusion that BSS is best cause R1 are fast or it just looks so cool but you also might find that you prefer other weapons cause more reach or more power.
