Vote for a featured article! Banzai Bills are a recurring enemy in the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario World. Banzai Bills are a variant of Bullet Bills generally depicted as large, black bullets with a shark-like smile on their face. Hotel Mario gives them a more unusual appearance of being closer in size to Bullet Bills and sporting a Bullet Bill's characteristic limbs. Banzai Bills are often fired from somewhere off-screen and travel slowly toward Mario or another playable character. Their arrival is heralded by a firing noise.

They are the second-largest derived species of Bullet Bills, after the King Bill. Their English namesake, "Banzai" comes from the Japanese interjection, mainly used for jubilation or celebration, frequently translated as "Hooray! Their original name, "Magnum," refers to their very large size in comparison to most enemies in the Super Mario franchise. Most languages have adopted either the Japanese or English versions of the name, with a few exceptions, one example being the German name, "Riesen-Kugelwilli", meaning "Giant Bullet Willi" where "Willi" is the German equivalent of "Bill".
