It doesn't put all of its eggs in one basket; instead, this pad performs decently in all areas. While all of our testers enjoyed using the Q-Core SLX, it lacked the wow factor that typically associates itself with award winners, but the strong performance throughout metrics does make it a strong contender. The laminated quilt pattern creates a trough with large edges, which help keep you centered when squirming around in the middle of the night looking for the chocolate bars. While the four-plus inches of loft may seem excessive, it was an excellent barrier between our bodies and the ground. Even with minimal site clearing, we felt absolutely no debris or bumps under the pad. The Q-Core is plush and nearly double the thickness of other inflatable pads we tested. This thickness did come with one downside. While pads with tight baffles and narrow channels have almost eliminated the annoying bounce felt in early sleeping pads, the Q-Core SLX still has a bit of the annoying bounciness when shifting around. It is nothing compared to early inflatable sleeping pads and a far cry from the dangerously bouncy inflatable mattresses your relatives pull out of the garage when you come to visit but, the bounce is present. The upside of the massive air volume in the Q-Core is that we could barely feel the ground, even when kneeling on the pad.
We consider the most important boundaries to be personal ones, and create gear designed to help you push yours. Temps dropped quickly and we were quite warm throughout the night.
The Big agnes Isulated q-core deluxe is an excellent, warm and comfortable sleeping pad. Throughout the years I have used all kinds of sleeping pads in varying climates and terrain. In my early years of transitioning to ultralight I used the lightest possible sleeping pads I could find. What resulted was often a horrible nights sleep for me and in turn, a horrible days hike. While my body often got used to the bad sleeping pads, as far as comfort is concerned, a cold mat was never fun. It didn't matter how warm a sleeping bag I had, if my pad wasn't up to par, I would freeze. Over the years companies have brought out good UL pads - starting with Thermarest X-lite.

Tired of miserable, sleepless nights in the backcountry? Big Agnes claims that its Insulated Q-Core is the most comfortable pad on the planet. Is it? Because it is 3. The Q-Core features a quilted pattern of alternating vertical and horizontal baffles that provides even weight distribution and raised side beams to prevent rolling off the mat in the middle of the night. I have slept on it in temperatures ranging from 15 degrees to 75 degrees and on surfaces ranging from rocky, granite ground to plush grass. No matter the temperature or the surface I slept comfortably on the Q-Core. The Q-Core offers superb support, no matter if you are a side, back, or stomach sleeper.

While the four-plus inches of loft may seem excessive, it was an excellent barrier between our bodies and the ground. Additionally, the material this valve is made from feels like a dense compliant rubber rather than brittle plastic, which bodes well for durability and the likely scenario of someone stepping on the valve at some point. Over the years companies have brought out good UL pads - starting with Thermarest X-lite. During the previous testing cycle with the same model, we managed to pop the lamination on the inside of one baffle; this didn't result in any air leakage, and we were still able to use the pad. Pros Comfortable Warm Easy to inflate. It is still comfortable, don't get me wrong, but the Q-Core's comfort is in another league. Size: 20" x 72" 20" x 72" 20" x 72". While the sack isn't anything to write home about, it does get the job done. Looking for a solution, we bought into the "sleep system" philosophy where you could integrate a pad into the sleeping bag by sliding it into the designated space. This has an inch more loft and a slightly warmer "R" rating. Big Agnes tells us that the updated Insulated Q-Core SLX is essentially the same design as last year's pad — they've just changed the name and included an inflation sack. The previous model was also insulated; this year's model, however, has changed some of the internal organization of the insulation.
Weight: gram. Of course I paid the difference in price, but it was well worth it! The most notable update for the Q-Core was the addition of a pump sack.
