On March 6, , at approximately p. The victim was struck by gunfire and tried to flee, but was chased down by the suspect who attempted to shoot him again at close range. The suspect fled to a nearby stolen Ford F with an accomplice inside waiting. The victim was able to run to call for help and survived the attack. The Ford pickup truck was abandoned and later located by police, which they then analyzed for evidence. Following investigation, the shooter was identified as Alexander Mills-Smith of Toronto, who is now deceased. The accomplice and co-accused has been identified as year-old Illia Ayo of no fixed address. He is currently in custody for unrelated charges. Ayo has been charged in connection with the shooting with attempted murder using a firearm, occupant of a motor vehicle with knowledge of a firearm and two counts o possession of property obtained by crime. Investigators with Peel police say they have tracked down a man they believe was responsible for a shooting in Brampton last year in which a man was repeatedly shot at while walking his dog — but the alleged perpetrator is dead. In a news release issued Saturday, police said after a "complex and lengthy investigation," they have identified the shooter as Toronto man Alexander Mills-Smith, who has since died. Investigators did not provide any information about how he died, or the motive behind the shooting. A second man is also now facing charges linked to the incident, which happened on March 6. Police say on that date, Mills-Smith approached a man who was walking his dog along Etobicoke Creek Trail in Brampton and fired more than a dozen shots in his direction. The victim was hit by a shot and tried to flee, police said, but was chased by Mills-Smith, who attempted to shoot him again from a close range.
