Man City's quest for an unprecedented fourth straight Premier League title begins on Friday night as they face the newly-promoted Burnley at Turf Moor. Pep Guardiola's side wrote themselves into the history books two months ago when they beat Inter in the Champions League final to claim a historic treble. No English side has ever won four straight league titles. That's what their gunning for. Their campaign begins against a familiar face in Vincent Kompany, and here's the starting XI Guardiola could pick for the contest. RB: Manuel Akanji - Comfortable across Guardiola's back four, Akanji was used at left-back last time out, but he could shift over to the right on Friday. He excelled at right-back down the stretch last season.

The first XI is robust and reliable but lack of transfers risks leaving the squad short of depth and angering Sean Dyche. One could be forgiven for thinking Burnley would have plans to look upwards after five seasons in the Premier League , but the strategy will be to reach 40 points and work from there. This time around only the defender Nathan Collins and keeper Wayne Hennessey have arrived, the latter on a free. Collins, a year-old signed from Stoke, is certainly a step up from what was available to replace Ben Mee and James Tarkowski, whose absence was key to their wretched start to last season, with Phil Bardsley and Kevin Long poor imitations. Collins has potential to improve and could be a sign of a new policy to recruit younger players with long-term prospects. Equally salient for Dyche will be keeping the integral components of his side, with Tarkowski in the final year of his contract and Dwight McNeil attracting interest from Premier League rivals. Finding replacements would be complicated for a side built on a tried and tested formula. The focus is on signing competition for McNeil and Johann Berg Gudmundsson because it was plain Burnley lacked impetus off the bench when needing to change a game last season. Many players have been linked but Dyche will be frustrated by the lack of business.
