One of my favorite restaurants in Barcelona is Cal Pep. My first visit was in and the food we ate actually helped inspire me to start writing about food. I came here with a few friends back in college and we had an especially memorable meal. At the time of our first visit, Pep, a nickname for the chef and owner, carefully directed the activities of the open kitchen. His lively personality and contagious smile extended into their simple dishes consisting of carefully sourced ingredients meant to ensure freshness and quality. We loved dining here.

We were recommended to Cal Pep and we were not disappointed. We arrived shortly after they opened as we heard how busy it can get. We managed to get a seat and the friendly waiter saw to us. We told him how much we wanted We had bread with tomato, clams with ham, tuna tartare, fried artichokes, squid with chickpeas and tortilla. All were absolutely delicious and we just tried everything, I would never have picked tuna tartare myself so I was excited to try it.
