The first time I went to a World Rally Championship event in Spain, I saw some things I expected: turbocharged AWD hatchbacks blitzing back roads at mph, banged-up cars limping into the pits at the end of stages, rabid fans watching the race from wherever they could find a spot, including up in trees. This seems to happen about 1 in 10, posts so I wouldn't say that there is "obviously" a lot of talk about it. In fact, it seems that there obviously ISN'T much talk about it at all. I'm with you. Top speed is not talked about, and really has little to do with the design of these bikes. If you wan't "proven" facts, you should be able to calculate the top speed based on the gearing and the circumference of the rear wheel. It would take a bit more information, but look it up.
