Cruz is a minor supporting character in Cobra Kai. He's a small-time criminal with Trey and newly Derek , as well as a former acquaintance of Robby Keene. Cruz, along with Trey , appears as a friend and partner-in-crime of Robby Keene. They can be seen working with Robby to scam out a laptop from a tech store, with intentions to sell it to get money for drugs. Later, Cruz and Trey are hanging out at Robby's apartment doing drugs and watching adult content, when the trio gets confronted by Johnny Lawrence. While the deal is being agreed on at first, Robby, eventually changes his mind and refuses to give them the passcode when the trio meets in front of the office, resulting in Cruz and Trey attacking Robby, who attempts to fight them with his new karate skills. Eventually they corner him, but quickly run away upon discovering that their activities have been recorded on a security camera. Cruz and Trey appear again when they are pickpocketing from visitors at the Beach Country Club. Robby stumbles upon their stash of stolen wallets under a staircase, after which he confronts them, asking them to return the stolen items to their owners. When Robby attempts to fight them, he gets knocked out by a new member of their gang, who hits Robby to the head with a paddle. Cruz pulls out a knife and attempts to attack Robby, right before Daniel LaRusso intervenes and knocks the trio out, thus saving Robby from the thugs. Cruz and his associates were caught by police and have gone to jail, as seen in Ep.

In season 2 , they get a third member of the group, Derek. He has to leave that part of him behind to make any progress in his life. They greet him as he comes out after stealing a laptop. They declare that they are planning to rob an Amazon truck and ask Robby to join them. But Robby declines, stating that he has work. Initially, Robby took the job to spite his father, but as the season progresses, he comes to respect Daniel and later becomes his student. When Robby seems reluctant, they threaten him. When Trey and Cruz show up, Robby forces them to run away with his newly-acquired karate skills and a surveillance camera. He tries to confront them, hoping to record the fight and use it to draw students to Miyagi-Do.
