So, i've thought on this for quite a bit, and i came up to a conclusion. Cthulhu is definetely in Terraria in a different form from what we know [and love] it. The Corruption being it's influence, it's simple aura, the Corruption has a grim, diseased tone to it, and the vast majority of the enmies found in there, vaguely resemble Eldritch horrors [Eater of Souls, Devourer, Corruptor and such]. Or Perhaps. The Corruption could be where he ''slept'', the Chasms fairly resemble eormous, dig tunnels, and while it could very well be the Eater of Worlds, it could also be where Cthulhu could've been laying. Or is it? I'm fairly convinced that what we perceive as the ''Moon Lord'' is nothing more than what remains of Cthulhu himself, a projection of his Eldritch power, the Moonlord possesses multiple eyes and is linked to the Moon [duh.. MoonLord is a afterimage of Cthulhu. As much as I appreciate lore, there really isn't enough solid story in Terraria to come to conclusions like this which is the fault of the devs, not lack of trying. The simplest explanation is that since Cthulu's existence in our reality is impossible due to inability to percieve him, his immense power, insanity inducing presence, etc , only parts of his body can be summoned.
