For all your Rocket Mass heater parts.

One year ago this Super Bowl Sunday, I was installing the steel header for our loft beds. For a long time we debated how we would heat the Tiny House of Steel but when we came upon the Cubic Mini while looking for marine wood stoves, we fell in love. The stove comes with a layer of paint that needs to be cured at the first firing which is best done outdoors. With the stove pipe in place and lots of unstained bits leftover from our cedar siding project, we fired our Grizzly on the tongue of the trailer non-stop for 6 hours! Bends risk creating too much turbulence, which affects the draft. I am very nervous about cutting through the steel hull of our THoS — this was our one shot through the roof. Last time we did this we were putting in our port windows — take a look at me cutting into the wall with a grinder in our video.

Cubic Mini Wood Stoves is a small stove manufacturer based in Canada. Their small Grizzly stove and even smaller Cub stove are popular choices for very small spaces, or spaces that don't need very much heat. Our 3" flue systems are a popular option for safely venting a Cubic Mini stove in tiny houses, cabins, vans, RVs, buses, yurts, and all sorts of small spaces. Since our flue system is modular, it makes a very nice detachable chimney for use on vehicles. It would be a little harder to do that with Cubic Mini's kit since the outer wall, inner wall, and insulation are separate pieces. We also offer 3" 45 degree elbows , so you can offset your chimney with one of our flue kits. Cubic mini only offers straight pipe. The Cubic Mini flue flange is a little smaller than a standard 3" pipe, so you'll want to use our Cubic Mini adapter. If you prefer not to use the adapter, you can hack the pipe a bit to make it fit. Because the stovepipe in a wall mount configuration is so close to the wall, you can't use any single-wall pipe in a wall mount configuration. Single-wall pipe requires 18" clearance to combustibles which can be reduced to 6" with a proper heat shield. Double-wall pipe generally requires 9" clearance to combustibles which can be reduced to 3" with a proper heat shield.

Crimp end goes down so to contain any creosote or condensate to the inside of the pipe. Bends risk creating too much turbulence, which affects the draft.

The Grizzly is the big brother of the cub. Its slightly large firebox gives it a longer burn times and a bit more heat output. This solid little stove is well built and attractive. The Grizzlies small weight and size make it perfect for spaces like sailboats and RV's where weight and size are a concern. Bottom line The Grizzly is a perfect stove for a small space with limited heating needs, where size and weight need to be kept to a minimum. Ease of use The Grizzly is fairly straightforward to use. Many folks we've talked to have added a small grate to the bottom of their Cubic Mini to improve airflow through the bottom of the fire and to help separate ashes.
