I have naturally dark brown hair that can go a bit reddish in the sun. I also have quite a few greys and regularly use a dark brown dye. The bleach supplied often isn't strong enough to get really blonde first time, so you have to do it twice otherwise it is just orange. The problem with this is that unless you get the exact same bits again, which is quite hard to do, then you will just end up with more orange hair. You will then keep trying again and again until your whole hair is just orange not the bitter voice of experience here, oh no! My experience with home ombre has been similar - I have had to do it twice to get the desired effect, but obviously with ombre its much easier to make sure you do the same bit twice. I feel your pain though - I have tonnes of grey and really don't want to be forking out for professional colour all the time hence all the DIY jobs!
