Slade also became acquainted with John Lynch , encountering him in Paraguay alongside Alexander Fairchild ; afterwards, both men owed Lynch a debt. Slade and Fairchild later did some mercenary work together, something they described as 'babysitting arms dealers', before both were selected for the covert-operations unit code-named Team 7. Before taking the name "Deathstroke", Slade operated with Team 7 , a team created to secure The Majestic Project - a plan to control future metahuman threats.

Some time later, Wilson volunteered for a medical experiment designed to stimulate his adrenal gland in the hopes of increasing a soldier's ability to resist truth serums. The experiment did not go as expected, and Slade fell into a coma. He applied for re-assignment with the Army, but they refused him. Although his condition was now stabilized, depression took hold of him and he was desperate to serve his country.
