Wiki User. The main events are, that Mrs. Chen is on the train and gets a flashback and shes in the factory where the inspector comes and tears her skirt due to the crooked seams. Later she gets another flashback about this girl called Lia Fong and how she obeys her home. Then the story goes on and shes at the clerk and the train stop and doesn't know how to get home, so she goes and phones home but fails to reach home, then she gets another flashback where she remembers someone who stole her purse while she was praying. Finally she finds this young school boy who helps to escort her home and finally shes greeted by her husband and son, Sunny. Ramage, a Englishman who travels to Dominica, is the main character of the short story. In the story he buys an estate, marries a colored woman and attempts to go assimilate into the Dominican culture. The community considers his behavior odd and criticizes him. In the end he commits suicide.
