This is a prototype arbor I made from Home Depot parts. The polisher is held in the bench vise in a bracket I built for it. You can see the eye-bolt that screws into the handle mounting. These will mount in the arbors, and give me a dry polishing setup that breaks down and stores in a toolbox. One wheel will be coarse, the other fine; changing over should be trivial. Until I have the wheels, I'm not sure exactly how to assemble this, and if it works, I might want to double up the wheels, so I got a pile of hardware, and when I settle on the final design, I'll take advantage of Home Depot's liberal return policy.

Can't find it now but a search turned this up: I guess combining it with a circular saw which probably isn't designed to take the side loading would take your mind off the possibility of catching your fingers in wheel spokes. Personally I would have it on a belt drive and alter the speed using different pulleys. Substitute the drum loaded with wet washing for an alloy about the same mass and its not too dissimilar! They work on a mass spring system to dampen the vibrations; I would not want my hands anywhere near something like that. And the rpm is pretty high. Might provide a couple of useful components though. Although I was thinking more along the lines of it possibly being the source of a suitable motor in that it had to rotate a simIiar mass and was capable of handling variations in speed..
