I have been a primary school teacher for over 20 years, 10 of which have been as a specialist visual arts teacher. I love my job and am passionate about the value of visual arts in a child's education. After creating my own visual arts lessons over many years, I decided I would like to take on the challenge of creating a web page to share my lessons and my simple step by step teaching method with my teaching peers. The poppies have come to symbolise remembrance of these important days as they grew wild on the battlefields of World War 1. In this artwork we use an interesting technique of spraying water on felt-tip marker to create a water colour effect. Water colours are a good choice for expressing feeling or emotion in an artwork. Intermediate Level. Materials White paper Scissors Black permanent marker Felt tip markers Spray bottle Paper kitchen towel Glue stick Table cover or newspaper to protect your work area Paint shirt or apron Black paper or cardboard for mounting. Different types or brands of markers may bleed differently. When testing your markers, you can also try adding a few drops of liquid hand soap to the water. This may help with the colours to bleed or spread.
