Eddie bauer guide pro pants

Eddie Bauer is a company many UK readers will have heard of but are probably not that familiar with as they have not been directly available in Europe. That has all changed as of and now with a dedicated UK website their products are readily available. Their clothing range is vast but for climbers, walkers and runners it is the First Ascent line which will be of interest. The first item we have on review is one of the icons of the line the Guide Pro Pant. The basic concept of these trousers will be familiar to most people; a lightweight, packable but durable trouser built for active use.

He patented the first quilted goose down jacket in the US and kitted out the first American to climb Everest, plus other Himalayan expeditions. Since then the brand has grown and like a lot of outdoor clothing companies has developed a range to cover all outdoor needs. With sub ranges such as the First ascent line that is aimed at the more technical outdoor kit. They have had a presence in Europe for a while, but only small. That is set to change with the launch of Eddie Bauer Europe. By following their criteria, they are working to keep harmful chemicals out of the air and oceans. They come in what I would call jean sizes so 32, 34, 36 etc. The mens have an original and a long leg option, and the women have an original, small, tall and plus size so it should be easy to find a size for you. They also come in a range of colours, I have the Hazelnut which is a nice brown colour, which makes them look more like a cool pair of climbing trousers, rather than a soft shell as they tend to come in black, dark black or some really bright colours. They are what most brands call athletic fit, so quite slim. I have skinny climbers legs and they feel a nice fit, not too tight and not baggy.
I got the "Smoke" color, which is actually a touch darker than the picture below.

I've never worn Eddie Bauer before but last fall I was looking for a pair of warmer hiking pants that would be both solid on the trail and not so "techy" that I couldn't wear around town in the winter. The Guide Pro hiking pants are pretty well known and the only difference here is the polyester fleece lining. Super soft against the skin and does a great job in fending off the wind and offering a warm, but not hot, layer when winter hiking. In the cold cold I still wear a baselayer, but I've these out on their own in the high 20's and have been perfectly comfortable. DWR is solid and sheds snow well. The pants come with two front pockets, two deep, zippered cargo pockets and two back pockets—both of which come with Velcro to secure belongings.

If your go-to outdoor activities are water-based, or you live in a wet and wild climate, we highly recommend these pants. The DWR finish does a good job of keeping quick splashes and light rain at bay for a while. But where these pants truly shine is in how fast they dry, making them one of the best in the test.

Because I was specifically looking for something that would work on the trail but around town as well, I felt the slightly looser fit in the legs was the better call. They breath well and I have never got too hot in them, perfect for activities, They also do a shorts version for really hot days. They also come in a range of colours, I have the Hazelnut which is a nice brown colour, which makes them look more like a cool pair of climbing trousers, rather than a soft shell as they tend to come in black, dark black or some really bright colours. If they do get soaked or you need to wash them in a stream then they will quickly dry out on a line or draped over a convenient boulder.
