If you start Elden Ring with one of the magic classes, you'll already have an adequate staff to get you going. But they're not the best weapons in the game. Once you're a few hours into Elden Ring, the best way to boost your damage is finding a better staff and then upgrading it as much as you can. It'll make a bigger impact than leveling up.
