It's visuals reflect those of old DOS games, it plays like a Sid Meier's Civilization game or the board game Risk, and it has relationship, dating, family-raising, and intercourse simulations. Both Touhou Project and Eratoho take place in a fictional setting known as Gensokyo lit. Gensokyo is representative of feudal Japan and is populated by many creatures from folktales and legends. In Eratoho, the player directly controls one person; they can choose to possess any existing character within the game world or customize their own personal avatar. This avatar can become a wandering adventurer, the commander of an army, the ruler of a nation, a prisoner or slave, and more. The victory condition of a playthrough is to either have one nation rule the map, or have a few nations share it in peace; the player can continue to play the game and manage their relationships even after this has been achieved. Although the player is only represented by a single person, the player still has indirect or imperfect control of all of their avatar's suboordinates.
