With former Cloud9 Academy top laner Kumo and ex-C9 support Zeyzal filling out the roster, Evil Geniuses were competitive to begin the Spring Split but seemed unlikely to seriously contend in the standings. On the public relations side, the team was more successful, attracting a lot of attention with their unique "Evil" branding. There, they were seeded into the winner's bracket of the new LCS playoff format and defeated FlyQuest , only to lose to eventual champions Cloud9 in the next round. Given a second chance in the loser's bracket, Evil Geniuses were rematched against FlyQuest, but this time came out on the losing end, again by a score. This ended their return split in third place.
