February 13, Ask a new question. Just writing to complain about this feature. People had issues with this back in and it still hasn't been fixed. Double-clicking on a cell slightly incorrectly causes excel to jump to the bottom of the sheet. This is very annoying when zoomed far out dealing with large amounts of data.

February 13, Ask a new question. I am trying to turn off the extremely annoying jump "feature" in Excel, where the focus jumps to distant cells whenever the cell border is accidentally double-clicked. I can see that many people have been asking about how to fix this issue for over ten years, with no improvements to the software and some suggested workarounds which don't seem appropriate for my workflow. Previous workarounds have generally been based on using F2 to enter cells instead of double-clicking. The cell could be anywhere so I need to use the mouse for this. Steps 1 and 4 involve fast clicking between cells so the "feature" is triggered regularly, but I don't want to zoom in because then I'd have to scroll more often when changing cells. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. It isn't as good as my current workflow, because I would have to search for the same line of text again in the formula bar before selecting it, whereas currently I find the cell visually and can select the same text that I'm already looking at. So I still think the "feature" needs to be fixed. But your idea is probably the best I have for now. The formula bar doesn't seem to have an auto-resize option, which means that I either need to have it filling half the screen, or the text I need will sometimes not be visible without scrolling.

Normally, when you double-click a cell, you enter in-cell editing mode, right? This works most of the time, but occasionally on random cells, a double-click instead moves the focus to a different cell in the sheet, as if I had simply single-clicked that other cell. If I then double-click the original cell again, it works as expected: I can edit the contents of that cell and everything is normal. This happens on random cells, regardless what their contents are, and of course they're not hyperlinked or anything like that. It happens on several versions of Excel XP, , , for certain; can't remember earlier versions.
