It can be received after starting the quest Vault-Tec Calling , provided the player has the add-on installed and is at or above level This station is an emergency broadcast from Vault 88 , calling for the help of Vault-Tec. The broadcast has likely been triggered due to a group of raiders trying to break their way into the vault. After listening to the message, the location of the vault will be marked on the map and the quest Vault-Tec Calling will update. After having activated the vault radio, the broadcast will consist of a brief post-War advertisement for Vault 88 recorded by Overseer Barstow as well as the vault's location, and instructions for application.

The radio is a world object and constructible settlement object in Fallout 4. The station cannot be reprogrammed and the radio has to be replaced with another radio if one desires a different station. A dirty variant exists for all three stations, while a pristine version exists only for Classical Radio if the Vault-Tec Workshop add-on is installed.
