The Fallout series initially started off as a wildly popular CRPG series that definitely had its fair share of fans, but one has to admit that the series wasn't exactly at the epitome of its popularity at that point. The series managed to attain this level of fame in the industry after Bethesda acquired the rights to the series and transformed the series into an immersive first-person action RPG in the same vein as The Elder Scrolls, allowing for a level of interactivity with the world that wasn't really possible before. However, some long-time fans of the series were of the opinion that the strong narrative and character writing of the series had taken a notable hit under Bethesda's wing While the game might not exactly be the most stable thing around, there are various mods that end up optimizing and modernizing the game in many ways. Keeping this in mind, here are ten of the best mods that are an absolute must-have for people running Fallout: New Vegas in modern times. The first thing that would strike most people to be somewhat odd about Fallout: New Vegas is that the UI is extremely ugly, to an almost unbelievable extent. Thankfully, with the use of Vanilla UI Plus , players can clean up the UI and make it more presentable for players who don't want to be turned off the very moment they end up starting a new game. The Mojave Wasteland is a compelling setting for New Vegas , but one can't deny the fact that the game does end up looking somewhat barren at times, which can be rather off-putting. Thankfully, with the Wasteland Flora and Terrain Overhaul mod , the wasteland becomes a beautiful treat to the eyes that can be quite a treat to explore for all the right reasons. The idea of looking down and seeing one's body in first-person might seem like a rather small change, but such a feature can do wonders when it comes to enhancing one's overall sense of immersion.

A Prettier Apocalypse One of the first steps to overhauling any game, be it New Vegas, Fallout 3 or Skyrim, is to update the textures for as many objects in the environment as possible. The largest version NMC's pack updates many in-game textures with 2K variants, and Ojo Bueno's mod ups the ante to 4K, and both packs do a great job of revitalizing much of the in-game world. If you're wary about framerate issues or overloading on too many textures, both mods have lower-resolution versions available.

The New Vegas Anti Crash mod does exactly what it says on the tin: It makes the game more stable on modern and older systems. While we may have addressed the constant crashing with the NVAC, there are still plenty of other bugs that we need to address in New Vegas. MM can be difficult to track down now, given that Nexus Mods has archived its page, and YUP is not only accessible but generally a great deal more efficient. As the name suggests, the Unofficial Patch fixes thousands of bugs, glitches, and errors that may crop up during an average play-through of New Vegas. If you want the smoothest experience possible, I highly recommend making YUP a priority.
