In Fragile Dreamsthe player character, Seto, must traverse the ruins of Tokyo and the surrounding areas, fighting off ghosts that lurk within these ruins.

The game follows the experiences of a year old boy named Seto who sets out into the world following the death of his caretaker. After a mysterious apocalypse mankind is left near extinct, and with a hopeful step Seto braves the world in search of other survivors like himself. Fragile Dreams is set in the near-future, where an apocalypse has left humanity dwindling and cities in ruin. The game drops the player in the worn shoes of Seto, a young boy. In the game's opening, Seto narrates how his "grandfather," an old man that he lived with, died at the end of the summer.

Why is it that I'm so alone? This is dedicated to those that share the same feeling of isolation. The game tells the story of a young boy named Seto, possibly the Sole Survivor of a world where humanity has suddenly vanished, leaving its cities abandoned. After the old man who he had been staying with passes on, Seto is left completely alone, but upon reading a letter the old man has written for him, he decides to leave the safety of his home and venture to " the red tower to the east " in hopes of finding other survivors. During his journey, Seto meets an assortment of strange and eclectic characters: a capricious silver-haired girl called Ren ; a motherly AI called a "Personal Frame" PF ; a roguish boy named Crow; an enigmatic ghost called Sai; a quiet spirit named Chiyo; the chicken-headed Item Merchant ; and a bespectacled scientist called Shin.

Fragile Dreams is a great example of a spectacular concept whose execution could have used a little more thought and time. I love the premise, the setting, some of the characters, and the production values. The story is engrossing. Exploring the lush, beautiful environments in search of clues is fun. The flashlight controls and effects are really impressive. Even combat, in dire need of a lock-on, is functional.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon has plenty going for it, after all — and not just a page-occupyingly long name. At one end you have the post-apocalyptic setting, where the lonely Seto, grieving after the death of his grandfather, sets off through derelict wastelands and dilapidated buildings in search of survivors. The world itself somehow manages to hold within it a sense of loss and mystery that few games can hold a candle to. Very simple and very slow.
