Courteney Cox plays Gale Weathers, a local reporter trying to get to the bottom of the brutal murders. One of my favorite scenes in the first film is when spoiler alert she discovers that her trusty cameraman, Kenny, has been slaughtered and thrown onto the roof of her news van. This is one of the many ruthless, selfish moments that Gale Weathers delivers us in the Scream movies. In her quest to get the story and solve the murders, the television reporter will often lie, steal, and destroy anyone who may get in her way. Sure, Gale is debatably the most unlikable character in the franchise, especially compared to the heroic leading lady, Sidney Neve Campbell , and the goofy, well-intentioned cop, Dewey David Arquette.

Gale Weathers formerly Gale Riley is a main character and tritagonist later deuteragonist in the Scream film franchise —present. She is the only main character to appear in all six films. In the original film , she claims and later proves Cotton Weary 's innocence and wrongful death row conviction of rape and murder in Maureen Prescott 's murder trial.
