A future developement plan for Napier and Hastings has identified where housing growth will be allowed in coming years and has the backing of both cities' mayors. The draft Heretaunga Plains urban development strategy includes a future housing plan for the region which will keep development compact around the twin cities and protect valuable fertile land areas.
