One, we wanted to see it on the motor and two, we knew there was going to be an interference with our catch can breather setup. Standard fare on any Mustang 5. Note how close that breather insert is in that front right valve cover.

The other day we were talking and he recommended replacing the stock intake manifold with a GT40 intake manifold similar to that off of an Explorer. He claims there is not near as much airflow out of the stock intake manifold and that the GT40 manifold had much more breathing room. Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on the swap as im sure others have done this before. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions. The does well with GT40 heads , but the intake shouldn't make a difference until a lot of other bottom end stuff changes. I don't know nothing about Mustang's, but my guess is the in his is quite different than the in yours. Many of the early aftermarket pieces copied the truck lower, when they made their intakes. I agree with the above that their is other things that I would put my money towards before a gt40 intake. Swapping will also require switching to the other style throttle body with 1 big hole. Not impossible but your not just gonna bolt the intake on and be good to go.
They can loose a little low end and be fine, not the case in the bronco. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.

They use different covers that look exactly alike except for the mounting hole placement. If you look closely you can see the different locations. The production cover holes are further apart.

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. I assume it's pretty straight forward: - buy Chilton's manual - get the bottom ported and also tapped for ACT - grind the upper out for my 75mm throttle body - delete EGR - get proper gasket kit and plug in all needed vacuum lines and cap vacuumports if any on the Explorer intake that are unneeded My buddy who's mechanically inclined is going to be helping me work on it. This would have an F3 meaning in the part number. They were sold optionally from Ford Racing and most people said F-that and just got the manifold. Are you planning on heads and cam to allow any intake you decide to get shine? Flame free zone! Which I'm not sure is really better or worse for my car. My buddy said these valves just lift off in one unit right on top of the cylinders? This one would need to be drilled to accommodate. Forddenial 61 Replies. First built in Japan probably by Yamaha , the first years were hand made with formed end caps. Ford produced 11, Lightnings from 93 to Which had a 5.
AVS Forum. Actual flow bench numbers don't remember where I got them I have written down in my notes from years ago: 5. Don't put too much stock in flow bench numbers - that is very much tied to length and the minimum cross section in the runners. The Ford front runners are dog legged for a reason and if you try to "straighten" them rather than increasing the radius to the port, then you shot yourself in the foot. It took 4. Will this intake work on my Lincoln Continental? It seems to me -and Tom Moss please correct me if I'm wrong- that it is more important to have a lower ported to work with XYZ heads than it is to hog the runners out matching to a gasket. Runs consistent 9. AVS Forum. Turns out it doesn't really match the truck lower so I had to go pull one from a junkyard. Can I run an EGR off just the hole punched in the lower intake?
