The series first premiered on 7 June on Express Entertainment. The drama revolves around the story of Guru, a transgender person. Guru faces many challenges and struggles to survive from the evil of society but never loses hope. After returning from a wedding, Guru finds an abandoned baby girl on the way back home. They bring the baby with them and take care of her. Guru loves the abandoned baby girl and meets her needs. They do everything to give that baby girl a good life and style. Guru is at a wedding with his 3 friends dancing. While returning from a well-earned night, they are met with rainstorm and make a stop under a bridge for the weather to settle. On the same night, Fakhira goes into labor and is told by her husband to not bring any more daughters' home. She has twin girls and fearing her husband, she hands over 1 baby to the nurse to give to a childless couple. The nurse couldn't find any family so leaves the baby in street. Guru finds the baby and brings her home much to chagrin of his roommates. Guru's neighbors get curious about the baby noises coming from Guru's home. The official soundtrack of the series is performed by Azhar Ali and Mohsin Ejaaz on the lyrics and music composition by Shadab Alam Sher.

Ali Rehman Khan is an actor who came into the field simply because of his passion. Leaving a lucrative job at UN, Ali entered the industry and he has since been a part of many films and dramas. The actor is however, mostly famous for his looks and gets roles of the rich boy tycoons which he does well. His other roles are also mostly very urban but the man just did something totally out of the box as he is playing an inersex character in his new drama Guru. Ali Rehman Khan is playing a very massy character and he will be depicting the challenges our intersex community has to face everyday.

Following the protagonist in functions and at home, Guru — the story of an intersex, will air on Express Entertainment. The teaser hints at a plethora of emotions like pain, anticipation and joy and the suspenseful music only adds to the mystery. Fans are waiting to see how the makers deal with a subject so sensitive and whether the representation will be done right. The previous teasers for Guru have hinted at highlighting drug abuse, discrimination, and social class system in the drama as well. It is always pleasant watching stories about characters with unique circumstances especially when such stories are told unapologetically and with the utmost confidence. The viewers can only fall in love with a character and relate to the story if the makers had enough faith in it themselves while creating it. Guru is much more than its gender and that is what makes this character truly unique. Absolutely not! We have watched many intersex characters in our dramas before as well therefore a story revolving around gender is definitely not the actual novelty here. The novelty is how the character has been penned down in particular. Most of the time intersex characters are shown living miserable lives and their entire identity revolves around their gender.
