TexShop converts my. I would appreciate any thoughts on what might be going on. Did you modify their parameters and shape? Ciao Enrico. Thanks for responding! The problem is with all the figures, but I get the same errors even if I remove the captions. I also appreciate the other tips - I set the width as you suggested. These bounding box errors persist when I use pdf or png figures and the overfull hbox happens with eps. I am thinking it must be a clash between TeXShop and the style file since the figures are fine if TexShop is allowed to do what it wants, which is use the epstopdf package to convert the figures. But my boss uses TeXShop and has successfully used the style file from the journal, so logic would say that can't be the case! TeXShop is very unlikely to be a cause for the problem. A minimal example is needed, including some address for the class file. Historical content remains viewable.

In such a case you should not have overfull boxes if you still have them, some changes in the text may be needed.

This is just a warning. Have a look at the PDF output on the relevant line s and see if you can just ignore it. TeX produces warnings for various aesthetic concerns. You can rewrite it using different words, or you can add hyphenation hints for the particular long word if TeX was unable to hyphenate it by itself no idea how to do that in Sphinx, though, but I'm sure the excellent docs cover it. Or you can look at the PDF, decide it is fine, and ignore the warning. Marius Gedminas -- There is an almost obvious extension of interfaces that would allow formal specification of arguments and return values.

Firstly, it is important to note these messages are not errors— see below for more detail. For readers interested in more detail, we have published an accompanying article in the Overleaf Gallery: Exploring underfull or overfull boxes and badness calculations. A list of additional resources can also be found at the end of this article. If we try to typeset set the following paragraph using a line width of 50pt:. It is worth understanding the meaning of those messages and recognizing when you need to take action to address them.

Building on the introductory material in a previous post, Boxes and Glue: A Brief, but Visual, Introduction Using LuaTeX , this extensively-illustrated article examines boxes and glue in more detail. We also present a new LuaTeX-based Overleaf project that enables you to explore the deep inner structure of TeX boxes—providing insights which will help you to truly understand their behaviour. Creation of the Overleaf project was greatly facilitated by the work of Patrick Gundlach, so we offer our thanks to him. Readers who are uncertain of the difference between a TeX engine and the LaTeX macro package may want to read one of our previously-published articles, What's in a Name: A Guide to the Many Flavours of TeX , which explains those differences in some detail. This brings us to our choice of LuaTeX. In addition to supporting a TeX-based programming language, LuaTeX also has the Lua scripting language embedded into into it—providing access to a simple, but very powerful, conventional programming language. Both pdfTeX and XeTeX do, of course, allow users to write TeX code that can influence typesetting behaviour; however, the deeper internal structures contained within those TeX engines, and low-level data constructed during the typesetting process, are mostly inaccessible to user commands and macros. In that sense, they are relatively closed systems when compared to LuaTeX. On Windows, such plugins are called Dynamic Link Libraries.

These parameters are the settings used by TeX to calculate how much the glue has to stretch or shrunk within this box and are just one example of data that you can easily obtain via LuaTeX but not with other TeX engines. Guenter Milde. Did you modify their parameters and shape? Unlike a physical box, where you can place objects inside it in any order, for TeX the order of box contents is extremely important—they are items to be typeset. Schultz UTC. TexShop converts my. Of course, a clean solution would be to avoid needless warnings as they tend to mask the places where the warnings are sensible. Otherwise, the warning wouldn't occur, would it?
