Heather Kovar had informed the TV station that she would not be renewing her contract prior to Saturday's broadcast. Her work previously appeared in Newsweek. Kovar told the paper that the slurred speech that alarmed viewers who were tuning in to the July 9 newscast on WRGB-TV was due to exhaustion and sleep deprivation.
