The Infinity Stones were six immensely powerful gem-like objects tied to different aspects of the universe, created by the Big Bang infinity gem colors from six singularities.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. These magical objects may seem like MacGuffins, or simply plot devices that are meant to keep the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. They then used their powers to free the Elders of the Universe who were trapped inside Galactus and restore him to full strength. After being resurrected, Thanos gazed into the Infinity Well and realized the Gems' true nature, so he set out to acquire all of the Soul Gems again now named Infinity Gems. There it was revealed that the Infinity Gems are the remnants of one of the earliest beings from the time of the universe's creation. Feeling lonely, it split itself into six different fragments. Under unknown reasons, each individual gem became associated with a particular facet: power, space, time, mind, soul and reality. The Infinity Gems were kept by the In-Betweener and by members of the Elders of the Universe who, on the contrary, were not aware of the true essence of their Gems.

The Infinity Gems originally referred to as Soul Gems and later as Infinity Stones are six fictional gems appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics , named after and embodying various aspects of existence. The Stones, with the exception of the Soul Stone, made their debuts in films leading up to Avengers: Infinity War The Space Stone, the first Stone to appear, was featured in a post-credit scene for Thor , housed within the Tesseract. The Space Stone did not make another appearance until Phase Three , when it made a minor appearance in Thor: Ragnarok and played a major role in Captain Marvel when it was revealed that the Stone gave Carol Danvers her powers. The Stone returned within the scepter in Avengers: Age of Ultron where it was being used on human test subjects. The Mind Stone was eventually used to give Vision life. Despite being destroyed, the Stones make appearances in the Multiverse Saga , including in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in an alternate universe where Thanos was defeated on his home planet of Titan by the Illuminati before he can collect all of the Stones. Scientific studies relating to the Stones have been conducted, mostly since the release of Infinity War , including one focusing on the control of matter.
