Ken's failure to regularly contact his parents led to his disappearance coming to the attention of his younger sister, Gwen , and cousin, Ben.

In the original series , Ben began the franchise as a year-old boy on a summer vacation with his family and accidentally discovers the Omnitrix, a watch-like device of alien origin that allows the user to transform into various alien species.
