Illumi manipulating Killua to directly kill Gon was a plot point in both a drama cd and the second musical. It is something Killua fears happening quite frequently in the anime itself. In the Chimera Ant arc, we discover what Killua is truly afraid of although it was foreshadowed well with Illumi and Nobunaga in previous arcs. He was so happy not to have that weakness anymore.
