This M Krag carbine falls within the range of serial numbers issued to the 1st U. Based on my research, the RR range of serial numbers cluster in the ranges to , to , to and to The Rough Riders numbered about man in total so, given the number of carbines in the ranges above, odds are relatively low that any carbine within that set is a Rough Rider gun. I have seen auctions for identified RR carbines including away from this carbine and the article in Man at Arm,s Vol. So this gun is well within the RR range. But that is all. So it is a good representative Spanish-American War Krag carbine and probably was issued to a unit bound for Cuba or the Philippines. This is my second. Or, more actually, my first. Turns out it was a cut-down rifle made to look like a carbine. It took 20 years to recoup my cost on that one when a re-enactor was happy to take it off my hands. We all pay our dues in this hobby.
