Experience the world of arts from around the world. A programme of films exploring vital aspects of Black history and culture. The events are lively and inclusive, with audience discussions exploring the film and the issues it raises, encouraging networking and inspiring debate. A year on from the Women Life Freedom movement that shook the Islamic Republic of Iran to the core we are celebrating the Persian New Year Nowruz by showcasing some fantastic films directed by Iranian women. Nowruz is the celebration of the coming of spring and the chance for rebirth, an important theme for many filmmakers of Iranian descent. Iranian women have been central in cinema from the rise of the Iranian New Wave Cinema to the current day. Simply by telling stories through the lens of a woman puts these filmmakers in cross hairs of the Iranian regime. Many have been arrested or forced to leave their country, some are now only making films abroad, a freedom to tell stories that they could never tell in Iran. This is our tribute.
