The Flame Vent will damage his Vitality greatly and can prevent his Posture from regenerating through Burn. It's possible to only deflect the first attack of the Spinning Kick Combo and than dodge the right, waiting to counter the final Thrust Kick , which can also be interrupted by attacking immediately. Despite the speed of his kicks, consecutive deflections are the proper way to parry this combo. There's enough time to punish him at the end of every of his combos, as he never chains two together.

Well, this guy just had my number. Still, he is beat-able right now and is nearby, so let me tell you about him. Remember the well we woke up in? Yeah, this is where you can find "Lone Shadow Longswordsman". Before you find him though, you will find a man near the well. His name is Jinzaemon Kumano , and he is friendly, so go ahead and talk to him. He mentions hearing a tune and seems to be drawn to it overwhelmingly. If you go down into the well, you will find Lone Shadow Longswordsman in the area you were resting at. This is tricky, but you can "talk" to him to learn he is searching for you and intends to fight you, to see if you can revive yourself. Do so and he will notice you and aggro. That's not what we want though. To un-aggro him you can simply head back to the house area and return. We can stealth-attack him to take half of his life away, which is definitely the ideal way to start this fight.

Mastering the Sekiro Lone Shadow Longswordsman boss fight is useful as his style is not only already a boss-form of a previously encountered enemy, but later goes on to form the basics of a few other bosses you'll meet later elsewhere in Sekiro.
The axe prosthetic also helped me out quite a lot to build up posture. I took the cowards way out and used cheese tactics to kill Lone Shadow off. However good the guy is, my camera deselects him every 10 seconds and I'm left auto-resetting my camera in every direction whilst he 1 hit kos me. The Flame Vent will damage his Vitality greatly and can prevent his Posture from regenerating through Burn. This doesn't make the fight any easier but it does help maintain any posture momentum you may have. This gives you the opportunity to use the Shinobi Firecracker and attack, like we do above.
