This is tricky, but you can "talk" to him to learn he is searching for you and intends to fight you, to see if you can revive yourself. Do so and he will notice you and aggro. That's not what we want though. To un-aggro him you can simply head back to the house area and return. We can stealth-attack him to take half of his life away, which is definitely the ideal way to start this fight.
