She is regarded as one of the highest-paid and greatest actresses in the history of Indian cinema. Born and raised in Delhi , Madhubala relocated to Bombay now Mumbai with her family when she was 8 years old and shortly after appeared in minor roles in a number of films. She soon progressed to leading roles in the late s, and earned success with the dramas Neel Kamal and Amar , the horror film Mahal , and the romantic films Badal and Tarana Following a brief setback, Madhubala found continued success with her roles in the comedies Mr. Madhubala's portrayal of Anarkali in the historical epic drama Mughal-e-Azam —the highest-grossing film in India at that point of time—earned her widespread critical acclaim and her only nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress ; her performance has since been described by critics as one of the finest in Indian cinematic history. Additionally, she produced three films under her production house Madhubala Private Ltd. Madhoo Shah [1] born Padma Malini ; 26 March [2] , also known formerly as Madhubala , is an Indian actress known for her works predominantly in Hindi , Tamil , Telugu , Malayalam and Kannada language films. Madhoo is a Tamil. She was educated at St. Balachander ' s Azhagan , co-starring Mammooty , Bhanupriya and Geetha. She made her debut in the Malayalam film Ottayal Pattalam , opposite Mukesh. The title role in Mani Ratnam 's Roja made her very popular. She made her comeback in , in the Hindi -language film, Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha , and has been appearing in supporting roles in films since then. She has acted in 5 films with her real name Madhu.
