It's no picnic being a fictional therapist. They're always either getting wrapped up in the Oedipal dilemmas of tough-talking mobsters or pairing up with spooky kids who see dead people or suiting up in latex to climb inside the minds of murderers. How do they even know how to bill for this stuff? In "The Watcher," Marisa Tomei is yet another headshrinker with a dilly of a client -- a tortured ex-lawman who's wasted the last several years of his life hunting down a sadistic serial killer. But things are about to get worse: The psycho himself just sat down for a session. Even if you did, however, chances are pretty strong you'd know how it all turns out anyway. Nearly everything in Joe Charbanic's debut feature feels borrowed from someplace else, from the overwrought score to the rooftops-and-helicopters chase scenes.

Set in Chicago , the film is about a retired FBI agent who is stalked and taunted by a serial killer. Campbell quits his job and moves to Chicago , where he is plagued by guilt-induced migraines. Campbell attends therapy sessions with Dr. Polly Beilman, but otherwise has no friends or social life. Campbell learns that a woman who lived in his apartment building has been murdered. He does not pay it much attention until he opens his mail and finds that a picture of the woman had been sent to his apartment three days before the murder. He brings this information to the attention of the detective on the case, Det. Mackie, and comes to the conclusion that the same serial killer has arrived in Chicago. One night Campbell receives a phone call from the killer, David Allen Griffin, who reveals that he followed Campbell to Chicago and wants to rebuild the "rapport" they once had. Griffin tells Campbell that he will send a photo of a woman in the morning and that Campbell has until pm that night to find her. Campbell tells Ibby that he wants back in on the case, and his request is granted. Campbell works together with Mackie and the rest of the team in getting the word out on finding the woman before the deadline.

Polly asks Campbell about his fears and takes what seems to be a marisa tomei the watcher interest in his well-being, but she's given minuscule screen time and no moments when she's neither a professional nor a potential victim. The casting of lovely Marisa Tomei as a psychiatrist is not credible, in a role meant for an older intellectual. Campbell distracts Griffin by saying 'thank you'.

Reeves is of course one of the most beloved actors of his generation, and boasts dozens of hits on his long resume.
