The Marxists Internet Archive MIA may at first glance look like a hold-over from the early internet years, but a closer look quickly reveals its lasting scholarly relevance. This one-of-a-kind library is home to a wealth of sources representative marxist internet archive the width and depth of Marxist thinking worldwide. Scholars can find here the works of most Marxist thinkers and practitioners, marxist internet archive, selected works of contemporary practitioners, and a range of influential works that predate Marx and Engels. The texts in the archive are either in the public domain or were published with the permission of the current copyright holder.

The collection is maintained by volunteers and is based on a collection of documents that were distributed by email and newsgroups, later collected into a single gopher site in It contains over , documents from over authors in 80 languages. The archive was created in by a person — known only by their Internet tag, Zodiac — who started archiving Marxist texts by transcribing the works of Marx and Engels into E-text , starting with the Communist Manifesto. In the accumulated text was posted on a gopher site at csf. Volunteers joined and helped spread and mirror the main archive. However, the main site and its mirrors were hosted on academic servers and by the end of almost all had been shut down.
