Mike breaking bad vs better call saul
Before Better Call Saul even began, Mike Ehrmantraut was considered a fan favorite by Breaking Bad viewers, but the prequel series would eventually change for the better. Beforehand, he was a new take on the action hero trope. The modern action hero archetype is young, buff, and, more than anything, invincible. That last adjective describes Mike well, but because of his old age, Mike was initially underestimated by viewers and his enemies.
Michael "Mike" Ehrmantraut is an American career criminal, Marine Corps veteran, and former Philadelphia police officer. Calm and calculating, Mike later became a private investigator, hitman, assassin, and violent fixer for drug traffickers to financially support his family his daughter-in-law Stacey and granddaughter Kaylee. He worked for both Gustavo Fring and Saul Goodman as a private investigator, head of security, cleaner, fixer, and hitman. Mike has extensive knowledge of how to operate on both sides of the law without detection. As a former beat cop and true professional, Mike maintains an extensive, up-to-date knowledge of forensic evidence, surveillance equipment, and police procedure. Mike is also well-trained and calm in all types of combat situations, once using science and long strategy to take down a large number of hostiles with ease.

Mike is a former Philadelphia police officer and United States Marine Corps veteran who works for Gus Fring —and, on occasion, Saul Goodman —as a private investigator, head of security, cleaner , and hitman. While an officer in Philadelphia, he engaged in corrupt activities that indirectly led to the death of his son Matt, leading Mike to move to Albuquerque to watch over and financially support his daughter-in-law Stacey and granddaughter Kaylee through jobs in the criminal underworld. Mike as a character has been praised by critics and Banks' performance has received several acting awards and nominations. Banks himself thought he would come on and do the role for "ABQ", but had been impressed by working alongside Aaron Paul in that scene, and with the overall direction that Vince Gilligan had provided for the episode. Banks considered his character close to that of Max von Sydow 's Joubert from Three Days of the Condor , an assassin that painted figurines on the side. He subsequently became an officer on the Philadelphia Police Department. Mike was married for 22 years, as he mentions in season 4 of Better Call Saul. His former wife's name and fate are never revealed. Mike had one son, Matt, who also became a police officer. Matt married Stacey and they had a daughter, Kaylee. In an extended flashback in the Better Call Saul episode " Five-O ", Mike is revealed to have been a corrupt police officer who took bribes.
Gus agrees, warning Mike that the process will be difficult, and both men shake hands. Mike avoids being seen by Walt, coolly making his way back to his car.
This week Better Call Saul came to an end , and with its series finale, closed the door on the Breaking Bad universe after two series and a standalone Netflix movie that spanned 15 years of TV. Until Vince Gilligan thinks up another spin-off, that is. But BCS improbably grew into a rich, multi-layered, visually dazzling and narratively engrossing drama as worthy of a spot in the TV Hall of Fame pantheon as its predecessor. Now that both shows are concluded, we can finally have the debate in earnest. GQ polled a few of our Albuquerque-proficient writers to weigh in. Spin-offs are always shaky, but prequels?
Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul : which is the better series? Breaking Bad followed the story of chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin, Walter White. His initial idea of cooking and selling meth to make some quick money for his family following his inevitable death from terminal cancer opened up some serious wounds for the once timid man who began enjoying his power in the drug trade a little too much. At one point along the way, he met Saul Goodman, a con man-turned lawyer who became part of his intimate entourage. The actual story behind Breaking Bad is totally riveting. We watch a timid husband and father who despises his job and holds a grudge against a former friend and girlfriend earning billions from a project he was integral to, turn into a bona fide monster. Better Call Saul might be progressing too slowly for some, but it provides a detailed look into how a man who might have made some bad choices but genuinely seemed to want to move forward on the straight and narrow, kept getting called back into his old ways. When it comes to action and intense storylines, Breaking Bad wins hands down, having kept viewers on the edge of their seats through many episodes. Better Call Saul is more about the characters, and while there are some pretty cool action sequences, the level is not nearly on par. With Jimmy moving further and further to the dark side, we suspect that the upcoming season of Better Call Saul might be far more action-packed than the first ones.
