The Klan is believed to be involved and a couple of FBI agents, Ward and Anderson, are sent in to investigate the missing men. Anderson is a former Sheriff with experience in ground realities, while Ward, his superior, is a stickler for bureau protocol and bookish in his methods. This contrast adds drama to the investigation as the two soon have to deal with hostile local cops, Klan sympathizers, and a reticent black community unwilling to cooperate. Many negros dislike this film because they feel it portrays them as docile, scared victims. This story is a lie. It never happened and nothing similar to it ever happened either. It is the black folks in America that burn buildings and cars, loot stores and attack and rob people constantly, not whites and that is a fact. This movie is Hollywood propaganda.
