Campbell Award for Best New Writer in , and his works have been nominated for the Audie Award multiple times, winning twice. I confess I had mitigating circumstances when I bought this: There were time constraints. As I said, the action is good, the world is interesting. Basically, this book is what would happen if Jim Butcher became a conservative survivalist and decided everybody needed to know it through his fiction. I also loved his cast of quirky supporting characters. If I were forced to give you an elevator pitch, it would be something like this: "Imagine Dresden files if you removed all the magic and replaced it with guns Indistinguishable from a natural disaster. Great take on the world of urban fantasy. Correia lots of our hard earned money. Mike the Paladin. A Twilight reference made me laugh but may end up dating the book. Lots of violence.

I wrote a review shortly after this book was available on Amazon. Owen does get banged up quite a bit who wouldn't after tangling with a werewolf and lands in the hospital with injuries galore. Sense of Humor necessary, for this book. The only complaint I had with the book was that it was too long. Ergo, Julie is way too accomplished and therefore a Mary Sue. If you can handle a Konrath's "Trapped" or "Afraid" then you will have no problem with this. Still there were enough original concepts that make me want to read the next book and eventually I will. But there's an element of truth to it as well This gets a 5 because of the pervasive violence. Oh, yea, and just like they say in Men In Black the movie "We always have to save the world at the last minute, shut up, sit down and buckle up. Business is good
